Justin Howell and Elisabeth Crandall-Howell, Clemson Gymnastics

Justin Howell and Elisabeth Crandall-Howell are the head coaches of Clemson Gymnastics, bringing one of the nation's most accomplished coaching resumes to TigerTown. Prior to joining Clemson, the husband-and-wife duo led the University of California program to 12 consecutive NCAA Championship appearances, including an NCAA runner-up finish in 2024, seven top-10 national finishes, and a perfect conference record and ACC regular-season championship in 2025. Together, they have earned numerous national and conference coaching honors, including 2023 WCGA National Co-Head Coaches of the Year, while coaching 11 perfect 10.0 performances and becoming the only coaches in Cal history to surpass 100 career victories. Justin also served as head coach of Team Jamaica at the 2016 Olympic Games, while Elisabeth is a former seven-time U.S. National Team member, two-time First Team All-American, NCAA regional champion, and World Championship silver medalist. Married since 2011 and parents of three children, Justin and Elisabeth are passionate about developing student-athletes both in competition and in life as they build Clemson Gymnastics into one of the nation's premier programs.

Provost Cole Smith, Clemson University

The Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost is Clemson University's chief academic officer, who works closely with President Ayers and the Board of Trustees on major, strategic University initiatives. The Office of the Provost is responsible for all academic activities at the University. More than 30 units report in to the Office of the Provost, including Clemson's nine academic colleges, the Graduate School, Undergraduate Learning and the Libraries.

Chris Gesswein, Executive Director of CURF

Highly respected for his deep understanding of business, research, and product development, Chris works to maximize the societal impact of Clemson University’s research and innovation by facilitating the commercialization of Clemson technology through industry sponsored research and licensing activities.

Chris joined CURF in 2014 as Director of Licensing for technology transfer, becoming Interim Executive Director of CURF in 2017, and assuming the role of Executive Director in 2018. Chris has more than 25 years of experience bringing various technologies from concept to market and working as a new product development and technology transfer specialist for early-stage startups as well as large multinational companies. His leadership is shown in his unwavering commitment to maximizing the societal impact of Clemson University’s research and innovation.

Dr. Lesley Ross, SmartLife Endowed Chair of Aging and Cognition & Director of Engaged Aging

Dr. Ross is an the SmartLife Endowed Chair of Aging and Cognition, Director of the Institute for Engaged Aging, Co-director of the South Carolina Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, Co-director of the Study for Healthy Aging & Applied (SHAARP) lab, and a Professor of Psychology. She joined Clemson University’s Department of Psychology in 2020. Prior to joining Clemson, she was an associate professor and director of the PhD program in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies at the Pennsylvania State University and an Assistant Professor of Psychology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Ross is an active member of the Gerontological Society of America, National Academies’ Transportation Research Board (TRB) and the former chair of the TRB’s Committee of Safe Mobility for Older Persons. She has multiple funded projects through the support of the National Institute on Aging (NIA), National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and the US Department of Transportation’s Research and Innovative Technology Administration (RITA). Her main research focus is the development of methods to maintain healthy brain aging, mobility, and independence for older adults.
